1. How did you first become acquainted with the Church of Scientology?
book

2. What initially appealed to you about scientology?
I was looking for 'answers', I had recently read Edgar Cayce and was intrigued by psychic powers.

3. Were there problems in your life that you thought scientology would address?
As above. I had no direction in life, had been introduced to drugs. Had been going to go to college but financing fell through.

4. Did you see, experience, or hear about things that didn't seem right while you were in the Church of Scientology? What were they, and what convinced you to set aside your feelings?
Ha! Now that's a long, long story. And can't be specific on some. Too numerous to mention all. From the very beginning, you are lied to. Then most scientologists perpetrate the lie, when disseminating to others: that scientology is non-denominational. Anyone in scn knows that isn't true. The contrary fact is that you can't 'mix practices'. I was also told that scientology wasn't really a religion, 'it was just set up- by 'others', not lrh (HE wouldn't lie like that-'yea, right)'for tax reasons- it was really a philosophy of life'. There are many conflicting 'rules' like that. It creates a maze of red tape and makes it confusing.Simplicity? hmmm
In 1970, a beautiful class 8, OT 6 (per my recollection-she was definately at least ot3), got cancer and died. I remember people saying that she 'pulled it in'. I felt that way myself, because hubbard perpetrates that lie about people with cancer (or anything which would cause someone to die-thus proving that scn doesn't work!)Examples of this:'State of Man'tapes where he basically says everything bad is caused by overts (something you did which you know is wrong); HCOBS-check out subject index.I was a ronbot-totally.I had 'made a decision' to 'believe' whatever lrh said. For instance with the 'religion' lie, I decided that even though I knew it was a lie-that there was a good reason for it-to get scn spread around the world. It was'for their own good'. Otherwise known as 'the greatest good for the greatest number'.The scn excuse for the 'end justifies the means'.
There was a guy on the apollo who was tied to a chair to do TR's-he had run and hid in a lifeboat, but was found. At the time people were laughing about it-when he ran off and hid. But most people were upset about him being tied up. It was sort of surreal to me, confusing. He was a class 8, OT 3 (minimum). His confidence was shattered. When he left the ship he married a mormon, but later returned to scn.And don't think 'the commodore' didn't know about it-his messengers were all over the ship-he probably ordered it done.
When Susan Meister (?)'shot herself'on the ship. A notice was put up which basically stated that the people onboard who were 'pts'might flip out because of what this evil girl did to scn. And my recollection is that it either implied or stated that the pts's would be offloaded. It was stated that she had had electroshock treatment (it was all the psychs fault)and shouldn't have been onboard in the first place.I cried my eyes out for her.I did this in private because I was sure that I would be labeled 'pts'if I was found to be sympathetic to her. What was spread around the ship was that she was jilted by someone and shot herself in his room.NO COMPASSION FOR HER WHATSOEVER was put out by lrh-'the humanitarian'. No-she was an SP-per him.
I have seen old people with little money, be hard-sale regg'd out of their last dime. Again-'the greatest good'. I felt this was wrong-but blamed the reg-I didn't think lrh would approve. (I wouldn't think that HE wrote the policies they followed!)
I was regg'ed in the same way-out of my last dime and credit cards to the max-to the tune of over $50,000 on credit cards. Another contrary datum of hubbards-you're not supposed to go into debt, but it's ok for the reg's to squeeze blood out of a turnip. And don't 'stop' your spouse from doing it either-counter intention!
Speaking of counter-intention-don't stop your spouse of 20 years (or whatever)from joining staff or the sea org. (another contrary datum(s)-in dianetics he states how important it is for women to be at home and not take on the roles of men-exactly what they do in the sea org.Women can't even have children in the sea org.contrary to the importance he puts on it in dianetics.Marriages suffer greatly for staff members and especially sea org. contrary to dianetics-importance of marriage.)I could go on and on with this subject and the subject of getting scammed out of money continuously.
I experienced the living conditions first hand-roach infested rooms-cleaning with bleach kept them out for a while, but one had to pretty much had to live amongst fumes continually to keep them away. The roaches get into everything. They are in the walls-in LA and in Florida.
There's a lot more, but out of time.

5. Why did you choose to stay in the Church of Scientology?
I wanted to believe. I wanted to achieve the goals of scientology. I didn't see the whole truth-til recently.

6. Were you staff or public? If staff, was it at a mission or an org? Were you ever in the Sea Org or OSA? Which unit? If not on staff, did you ever volunteer to 'help out'?
Staff and public. Mission and Org and sea org.

7. Why did you leave the Church of Scientology? Was there a "final straw"?
I was unhapppy. I suddenly realized that I was more unhappy in scientology than in the 'wog' world. That scientologists weren't any 'better' than the 'wogs' and that I didn't know anyone-including lrh, who had achieved the goals of scientology. When I started facing the truth-the dominoes all fell.

8. Do you think the Church of Scientology needs to change some of its practices? If so, what should be changed? How did those practices affect your life?
I think it should be disbanded.

9. If the items you listed in the previous question were changed, would you consider rejoining or staying in the Church of Scientology? If so, why?
n/a

10. Any additional comments you would like to make?
no
