1. How did you first become acquainted with the Church of Scientology?
My father introduced me. I took the comm course when I was 11 yrs old. I was audited on the single flow grades to grade 2. My parents divorced when I was 14 and I had no contact with it until I was 19.

2. What initially appealed to you about scientology?
I thought it was cool (I was a kid)

3. Were there problems in your life that you thought scientology would address?
Later when I was 19, had been married and had 2 children. I left my husband because he was abusive. I went to live with my dad and remembered how good I felt when I was invlolved with Scientology. I needed a boost of self esteem because I had been abused for 3 years by My stepfather and another 2 years by my husband. I felt totally worthless. I wanted to capture a time when I was happy and since scientology had been a part of it I got reinvolved. I took some courses at the local mission and then joined the Sea Org because of the promise of further training and auditing which I could not afford.

4. Did you see, experience, or hear about things that didn't seem right while you were in the Church of Scientology? What were they, and what convinced you to set aside your feelings?
When I first went to the Cadet Org I was horrified by the conditions that the children lived in. I was told that a mission was there in the process of moving the Org to a better location. So I joined and took my children there. I felt that even though the living conditions were poor that at least the children would be well cared for. This was mostly the case. This was during the time when all of the orgs were paying support to the Cadet Org and the children had toys and good food. When I finished the EPF I went to work at the Cadet Org which now was known as the Cadet Estate Org. I noticed that all of the Nannies tried very hard. There was 24 hr care for the children and which meant some nights 2 of the nannies functioned on only 4 hours sleep. There were not enough nannies to allow for time for training and auditing. I woundered why nothing was done to correct this as I was told that everyone was expected to get 2 1/2hrs of training or auditing a day. I believe that if they were given the time most would have gone off somewhere to sleep. Later as I moved up in the organization, I noticed and CMO missions would come in to 'fix' things and the CO would get removed and they would go through the motions to fix it and then leave. I did not see any lasting change except for the fact that the nannies were even more over worked. When I went to the USGO things seemed to get better until the Operation Snow White fiasco. Then the CMO jumped in.

5. Why did you choose to stay in the Church of Scientology?
I stayed because I felt obligated. I mostly kept to myself and did not speak to anyone of my feelings because I was afraid of being punished.

6. Were you staff or public? If staff, was it at a mission or an org? Were you ever in the Sea Org or OSA? Which unit? If not on staff, did you ever volunteer to 'help out'?
I was in the Sea Org. I was in the USGO prior to it becoming OSA.

7. Why did you leave the Church of Scientology? Was there a "final straw"?
I was routed out because I had become pregnant. They did not was to pay for the support of my child. I paid for my prenatal care and delivery. The whole time I was pregnant I was treated like a leper. I refused to work the long hours and put myself and my child in jeopardy. I was ready to leave but I guess I was afraid of being declared. When I got the fitness board I secretly welcomed it but felt that I had to put on a show to resist it or be forced to write O/Ws. I did not write the up as I contended that the Church wanted to be rid of me as they felt I was a financial burden to them and since I was willing to stay, they must have O/W's on me. That did not sit well with Qual who is in charge of the routing out process.

8. Do you think the Church of Scientology needs to change some of its practices? If so, what should be changed? How did those practices affect your life?
They need to realise that people are human being and should be treated with respect. Peoples opinions should be heard and if they have a question concerning conflicting data in the policy letters (which there are quite a few) that there should be a way to resolve them instead of blaming the individual. I went on with my life for quite a few years believing I was a failure and incompetent.

9. If the items you listed in the previous question were changed, would you consider rejoining or staying in the Church of Scientology? If so, why?
No. I believe that there are no redeming qualities in the tech or in the Church. It is all a means to manipulate and extorte money. I was there when the policy came out about the price increase. I was in the USGO Finance division and saw first hand all of the income stats. The stats did not increase and was 'predicted' as a matter of fact the bodies regged stat dropped even though the income continued to rise. I made comment on this saying that I felt the price increase was a mistake and that we would have bee better off taking a different tact. I was written up for that but luckily my stats were up so I just got a dressing down. After that I kept my mouth shut. I also stopped getting auditing as I was afraid that I would get into trouble for the things I was thinking.

10. Any additional comments you would like to make?
The best thing that could happen is if the COS was disbanded. Too many people have been seriously damaged by it. I have been out for 20 years and still have trouble with trusting people. I have remarried (for the third time, my second was Scientologist) a wonderful man who has been very patient with me. It is paying off for the both of us. I have a very successful carreer had am considered one of the best in my field to the point that I receive unsolicited job offers. This is something that I NEVER experienced while I was involved with scientolgy.
