1. How did you first become acquainted with the Church of Scientology?
Walking past London Org daily for several weeks. Eventually walked in and did the comm course.

2. What initially appealed to you about scientology?
Being able to help others.

3. Were there problems in your life that you thought scientology would address?
Not really.

4. Did you see, experience, or hear about things that didn't seem right while you were in the Church of Scientology? What were they, and what convinced you to set aside your feelings?
Not really. I was so convinced of the rightness of being in the Sea Org that everything else just sort of fell by the wayside as irrelevant.

5. Why did you choose to stay in the Church of Scientology?
As above. The purpose of clearing the planet etc. sort of overrode everything else.

6. Were you staff or public? If staff, was it at a mission or an org? Were you ever in the Sea Org or OSA? Which unit? If not on staff, did you ever volunteer to 'help out'?
Staff, never public. Joined AOSHUK in 1972; moved to LA in 1986 and worked mostly in ITO until 1996. After I left the SO I was a freeloader, so never looked on by the CofS as anything better than a possible source of freeloader collections. In reality, being left alone wasn't a problem at all.

7. Why did you leave the Church of Scientology? Was there a "final straw"?
The final straw for routing out of the SO was getting taken off post for the third time in a few years for nothing to do with my post production. Turning from a Scientologist to a non-Scientologist was a gradual change over several years, helped by reading and posting on various online forums.

8. Do you think the Church of Scientology needs to change some of its practices? If so, what should be changed? How did those practices affect your life?
Yes. I think it should be unmocked completely, whatever criminal investigations needed should be carried out, the assets should be liquidated and used to pay back those whose deserve it as much as possible (not an easy administrative task at all), and Hubbard's materials should be put online for free if anyone wants them at all.

9. If the items you listed in the previous question were changed, would you consider rejoining or staying in the Church of Scientology? If so, why?
Fuck no. It's a criminal con, and I don't see any way of realistically reforming it.

10. Any additional comments you would like to make?
The Ex-Scientologist Message Board is an excellent resource for anyone connected to Scn.
