1. How did you first become acquainted with the Church of Scientology?
My stepfather was one.

2. What initially appealed to you about scientology?
It provided a logical and structured way of addressing problems and sources of stress.

3. Were there problems in your life that you thought scientology would address?
Yes, I had a lot of nervous tension following the death of a parent.

4. Did you see, experience, or hear about things that didn't seem right while you were in the Church of Scientology? What were they, and what convinced you to set aside your feelings?
Yes, a lot of shouting at staff members who weren't delivering. I was also told off for originating something about dreams to another
pc which didn't accord with what Ron said about them.

5. Why did you choose to stay in the Church of Scientology?
I didn't. I did two courses (from which I benefited IMO) and then left.

6. Were you staff or public? If staff, was it at a mission or an org? Were you ever in the Sea Org or OSA? Which unit? If not on staff, did you ever volunteer to 'help out'?
Public.

7. Why did you leave the Church of Scientology? Was there a "final straw"?
I finished what I came to do and didn't want to go any further. It was expensive to go Clear and I wasn't convinced that doing so would meet my spiritual needs.

8. Do you think the Church of Scientology needs to change some of its practices? If so, what should be changed? How did those practices affect your life?

I largely agree with Ken Ogger's 'The Org's Grades Are Out.' They need to realise that the subject is a research line and Scn doesn't have all the answers; also, that the organisation isn't perfect and not all criticism is because of the critic's own overts.

9. If the items you listed in the previous question were changed, would you consider rejoining or staying in the Church of Scientology? If so, why?
No, I prefer the freezone and there are now other therapies and practices which seem to do the same thing, such as Idenics and TIR.

10. Any additional comments you would like to make?
I am grateful for what I did in the Church, even though there was a lot wrong with it when I was there (mid-80s). The freezone suited me better as I like to think for myself rather than be told what to believe.
